Up, Up and Away!

It was busy in Cleveland for the Balloon Crew last week, with crew members inflating over 4,000 balloons within three days! Here’s a recap of our balloon release and drop.

Cleveland Indians Home Opener – April 5

Last Thursday was our ninth annual balloon release for opening day, and we sure blew it out of the park (literally – we released 3,000 biodegradable red, white and blue balloons into the Cleveland skies)!

Our balloon release, as seen from the stands. Thanks to the fan who submitted this!

Not to worry: our Qualatex balloons are 100% biodegradable, meaning they won’t just pop and litter the ground wherever they fall. Instead, they’ll break down and become part of the Earth. Yes, at Balloon Crew we’re as eco-conscious as possible!

With four release bags, that’s 750 helium-filled balloons fighting to escape per bag. So, as you can imagine, we had to station three people at each release spot. Even then, we were almost blown away while waiting for our cue to cut the restraining cords!

Crew Members Susan, Rachel, Terry, Sarah and Marina prepare balloon bags for the release!

While the release itself lasted only a few minutes at the end of the opening ceremonies – complete with a Marine-sung national anthem, a helicopter appearance and the Budweiser Clydesdales – the prep work took much longer. We arrived downtown at 9:30 a.m., and our Crew members spent all morning inflating balloons! Luckily, we had extra people on hand to help prepare the balloon bags and release them on the field.

Rock Hall ‘Girl Talk’ Concert – April 7

As part of their induction week ceremonies, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame hosted Girl Talk in concert. And guess who they chose to do the balloon drop for this special event? That’s right: us!

A mini-balloon drop that we did for Quaker Steak & Lube's New Year's Eve party last year.

This isn’t the first time we’ve worked with the Rock Hall, either. We have done balloon releases for celebrations of their seventh and eighth million attendees, too!

These events were on a very large scale, but we also offer smaller balloon drops for events. One of the most common is to fill a 3-foot balloon with smaller balloons and confetti, and have a party attendee pop it with a “Magic Wand”, which we provide. If you want to add a special touch to your next party, contact one of our Crew Members for a quote!
